All Creative Connections programs are presented admission-free at the Heritage Center of Clark County, 117 South Fountain Avenue in downtown Springfield. Following each free performance, meet the artists in the Heritage Center lobby!

In 1942, Roosevelt’s “Executive Order 9066” imprisoned thousands of loyal American families. These innocent citizens struggled to maintain their families while incarcerated. The Yamadas own a small grocery store where a Japanese-American girl, Emiko, works and dreams of someday going to college and becoming a teacher. Following Pearl Harbor, her family is relocated in an internment camp. Upon her release, Emiko rebuilds her life, waiting for an opportunity to tell her story to the world. Witness this silent chapter of our history and a Japanese- American family’s fight to sustain faith and love in the country they love.

Transcending time, continents, and civilizations, storytelling originated on the African continent and spread throughout the world. Including stories selected for a wide repertoire and accompanied by African percussion, Queen Nur presents this tasty treat of tales, songs and dance celebrating African-American heritage in this highly energetic and interactive performance.

The Legend of Marshmallow Island

Lorne Lampert, founder of Mystic Drumz, is a professional performer with multiple television appearances and experience on Canada’s biggest festival stages. Lorne's  “adventure in world music” blends multicultural music themes and interactive audience participation with high tech screen projections, incredible sound effects and unique instruments from around the world!

Illstyle & Peace

It’s a hot party with a very cool message! Illstyle & Peace Productions is a multi-cultural dance company whose work fuses the moves and spirit of hip-hop with other dance. Founded in 2002, the company creates and shares their awe-inspiring work with audiences worldwide, infused with amazing technique and ability, to entertain and spread unity, peace, love and respect through dance. Illstyle and Peace offer demonstrations and oral histories of hip-hop, breaking, popping and locking, and house dancing in this energetic, amazing program!
