Recreating the
Grateful Dead Experience...
The Dark Star Orchestra
Using entire shows from
the Grateful Dead's 30 years of extensive touring as a launching pad, Dark
Star Orchestra recreates the original song for song performance set list for
an entirely new generation of, as well as old school, Deadheads, performing
Grateful Dead classics in the same way that an orchestra interprets music of
classical composers. Touring nationwide for nine years to the tune of nearly
1500 shows since forming, the band's determined commitment to "raising the Dead"
has drawn national media attention.

Cherish the Ladies
When describing Cherish the Ladies, the
critics say it best: “It is simply impossible to imagine an audience
that wouldn’t enjoy what they do” (The Boston Globe). For the past
eighteen years, Cherish the Ladies have proven themselves
worthy to live up to their many accolades, and in doing so have
become one of the most engaging ensembles in the history of Irish
music and an Irish traditional music sensation - literally the most
successful and sought-after Irish-American group in Celtic music.
Taking their name from the name of a traditional Irish jig, the
group initially won recognition as the first and only all-women
traditional Irish band. In a relatively short time, they soon
established themselves as musicians and performers without peer and
have won many thousands of listeners and fans of their music. With
their unique spectacular blend of virtuosi instrumental talents,
beautiful vocals, captivating arrangements and stunning step
dancing, this powerhouse group combines all the facets of Irish
traditional culture and puts it forth in an immensely humorous and
entertaining package.

Pic'n'Fiddle Fest with
The
Muleskinner Band
with special guests
Bob Lucas
and
Jim Greer and the Mac-o-Chee Valley Folks
Bill, Brian, Ed, and Gary come together as
The Muleskinner Band, bringing their individual musical
backgrounds, experiences, and influences with them. An evening with
the Muleskinners will certainly lead one to the conclusion that none
are willing to abandon their musical heritages. Hence, the musical
offerings on a given evening will span Big Mon to Buck, Patsy to
Merle, Gospel to the Drifters, Doobie Brothers to Crosby, Stills, &
Nash.
Great vocal harmony is a centerpiece of every Muleskinner rendering,
as is solid instrumental backing and soloing. An evening with the
Muleskinners will certainly include frequent and prolific
storytelling, humor, and good-hearted dialogue with the audience.
Bob Lucas has been making plays at Mad River Theater Works
for twenty-six years. Beyond theater, his songs have been recorded
by the finest voices in pop and country music. A sterling performer
in his own right, his music has been praised by “Downbeat” Magazine
who have given his music a “4-star” rating. Having come from a
family of musicians, he too enjoys making music with his children
and family. To quote one of his songs “We sing in the nursery our
children grow up to be singers quite rightly”.
As a collector he began as young person collecting traditional
stories, songs, dances and folkways of indigenous peoples as well as
the classic folk songs carried by immigrants from Europe to the new
world. His lifelong love of spiritual music of many genres imbues
and informs his compositions, bringing a sense of personal place,
humanness and ownership to everything he writes.
