About the Veteran's Park Amphitheater
Renovation Project…
The
Springfield Arts Council, in cooperation with National Trail Parks and
Recreation District, is currently in the second phase of the Veteran’s
Park Amphitheater Renovation Project. This project addresses vital
physical improvements to Veteran’s Park that will provide for the
continued growth of the Summer Arts Festival, enhance the public’s
enjoyment of this community event, and create an outdoor performance
facility conducive for use by other community organizations.
|
Concerns
included: a stage area that was uneven and inadequately drained, flooding
in the orchestra pit, poor access for those with physical challenges, the
need for improved audience sight lines, electrical and lighting issues,
erosion of the cliff face, and audience comfort requirements, such as
inadequate restrooms and concessions facilities.
|
The
Project enhances audience experience, comfort and accessibility through
topographic alterations, provisions for ADA accessibility, the addition of
adequate numbers of public restrooms, and structural repairs and technical
improvements which will also address the current requirements of the
performers attracted to the Summer Arts Festival.
|
Importantly,
the design of these proposed enhancements is to be accomplished in such a
manner as to complement the existing natural beauty of the Amphitheater.
These enhancements will enable the Springfield Arts Council to continue to
attract performers of national stature to the Festival, allowing residents
of the greater Clark County region the opportunity to experience
outstanding performances. Further, the project will provide upon
completion an exciting "new" venue to be utilized by many other community
groups and organizations.
|
The scope of the
project requires the sum of $3,885,000 for design and construction. We are
pleased that $2,710,000 has already been committed to the project, leaving
the balance of $1,175,000 to be generated through a
capital campaign.* |

special opportunity to tip your hat in support the Veteran’s
Park Amphitheater Renovation Project. We invite you to toss your hat
into the ring with a contribution to the Capital Campaign for the
renovation of Veteran’s Park Amphitheater.
2006 marked the 40th consecutive season of the admission-free Summer
Arts Festival. Your generous support helps the Springfield Arts Council
fulfill its mission of "building a better community through the arts."
